Long Term Care Crisis.

This past year saw one of our generations decimated in this pandemic. While other provinces got the message Ontario is doing nothing. The top news story today is that health care workers and seniors are at the top of the list of vaccine recipients but is that really enough? We’ve known the second wave was coming for months. Why is Ford sitting on millions of dollars that could go to protecting our seniors right now?

The timing just isn’t right. It will take months for this first phase vaccine rollout. In the meantime our seniors are going to have to weather out this next storm of infections with overworked staff in the same overcrowded conditions. Tendercare, in Toronto, where nearly every person tested positive for Covid in December is so understaffed that residents’ basic necessities such as food and water are not being met.

The same Globe and Mail article cited above shows examples of how other jurisdictions fought the first wave and prepared for the second wave. Ontario’s response is shocking in comparison. The Minister for Long Term Care, Merrilee Fullerton has failed our seniors and should be fired. Our provincial government has failed our seniors. The government needs to pass the Time To Care Act which has been stalling in the house for years.
